Only been on here a few times, I visited the forum this time specifically for a thread like this so I could say I love the bars The look and density reminds me of a PowerBar or Soldier Fuel bars from the military, but the mouthfeel is somewhat different. Tastes kind of like some bland cookie dough (which I mean as a compliment). No crumbs!
I can definitely see how some people are finding them too sweet. My first bite or two had me shell shocked after doing mostly powder and 2.0 for the past few months. I did not think I would be able to eat more than half, but almost instantly got used to it (unlike w/ the last couple of powder versions that took me a couple of glasses or days to get used to.. I didn't even like 2.0 initially though). I do wish one bar filled me up more, I could probably eat two bars if moderately hungry easily as a big snack or small meal. The powders and 2.0 don't fill me up all that well either though, especially when super active.
I gave one to my mom a few days ago, she found it very filling and ate it in halves (but she has complications with Lupus). She liked it though. My dad took a bite and said "the flavor reminds me of something else I hate the taste of".. He couldn't think of the other food though. My dad likes and eats almost everything though, so that was weird to me. I've read a few of the feedback threads on some of the powders, the number of differing opinions on something as bland as Soylent always amazes me. Taste can be a fascinating/weird thing.
I'm probably not the typical Soylent fan though. A product like Soylent was something I didn't know I needed (looking back though, the fact that I was still eating MRE's on occasion should have rang some bells). Basically, I saw Rob on The Colbert Report (rip) one night and thought it sounded cool. I've been a supporter/user ever since (with some breaks though, I don't think I ever had 1.4 powder), but I've never really paid much attention to the details (price, ingredients, packaging, etc) or searched out alternatives. I'm definitely going to check out Meal Squares & Joylent's Twennybars soon though.
Yikes, all I wanted to say was I liked the bar.. oh well, stupid alcohol.
