Is Zinc Aspartate harmful?

I have noticed @rob uses Zinc Aspartate as the Zinc source in the last blog post.
A quick google showed that it is of course, not quite the threat Aspartame is, and in the doses we will be getting it from the supplement of just one metal, nothing that the traditional view of it would call dangerous. However, in the ideal (to our knowledge) food we are trying to have, can aspartate really be allowed?
To rephrase, in addition to being dangerous in the high doses, is aspartate harmful in any concentration, slowly destroying whatever system is supposed to deal with it in the body, like it is with many substances (think oxycholesterol)
