The Matrix did it first

Just a relevant scene I was reminded of from The Matrix:

Oh gee, hadn’t seen this one in a long time.

The Matrix was following in a LONG line of deeply trodden footsteps. It won’t be the last, and wasn’t even close to the first. Larry Niven is the first one that springs to mind, but even he wasn’t the first. He had an entire planet with oceans filled with an ‘all you need’ algae. Scoop it up and eat it. “Bordered in Black” is the particular story, but it runs all through his Known Space series, and it was published in 1966… and it was an old idea then.

Wow, that was a single-celled protein combined with synthetic aminos, vitamins, and minerals. It seems to be missing carbs, which would make it an incomplete meal replacement. Soylent is still the first!

@Dusldorf, Just for the record, that was the sweetest Sci-Fi reference so far. Nice!
